From science fiction, fantasy and crime to history and thriller, a few short stories with its own drama and its own end. All of them are concise, well written and interesting, and not dull and boring. Chapters are short, a 2-3-4 pages long, which make it more engaging and encourages to read more and feel more satisfied after finishing it. It includes the 1000 most frequent words, spoken dialogues to help you learn converstional idioms and improve your speaking skills, accessible grammar so you will learn new structures naturally. It is much easier to lear a new language when you are having fun, research shows that if you are enjoying reading in a foreign language, you will not experience the usual feelings of frustration. Theses stories include elements that will support and consolidate your progress : a glossary for bold words in each text, summary, a bilingual word list, comprehension questions after each chapter, a short simple test. There is aslo a glossary towards the end of the book. The stories are fun to read. This book helps to understand the application of tenses and gender by reading the short stories. Useful exercises at the end of each chapter help to fill in the gaps in one’s knowledge. The language is not to simple, not like a children’s book, but you can understand the gist of wht is happening and learn more french through context with words and grammar. This book is good for you if you know a lot of words in french but you struggle with verbs, placement of pronouns and construction of sentences. It could suit you as well if you want to increase the list of your words because there is a lot of repetition. It is good for adults who are trying to recover french learnt at school and to improve your french reading skills. It is designed for people who learns the language and therefore are less challenging in terms of content, but very satisfying to improve the pace of reading.

The english version appears on the facing page of the french text. It includes as well a french-english lexicon, oral and writing exercises. An interesting collection of short pieces. There is a lexicon at the back. It aslo gives a small biography of each author and contextualizes each story. It is good to practice reading wth these writers, with their short texts rather than starting one of their 200-page book. Different texts with different styles. It is a brillant way for readers, pupils of French to read an original text to check their comprehension.

It is mapped from the A1 to the B1 level on the common framework or references. It provides a dictionary at the end of the book which contains more than 1500 french words and expressions, with its gender and its english version. It comes with an audible version. It is good to develop your reading skills. These stories are simple and connect to each other. The addition of the notes under each paragraph are really helpful, as well having the highlighted words which are repeated in others parts of the story, for example, the words heureusement (fortunately) and la plage (beach). You are constantly reminded of how a sentence is structured. It is written in the present tense and there is a list of words at the end of each section, so it is easy to go through the book.
