Apart from learning a bit of French when I was at school (about 35 years ago) I have never learnt a language and I was surprised by how easy this book and audio were to use. The best thing is that once you have been through the book with the audio you can keep listening to the audio and improve your French. I will be continuing to learn French.

I find this course easy to follow and it has good reminders so as not ‘to slack off’

I am currently on a newbies French course this book and audio was recommended by the course tutor, I find it very informative.

A good start to learning French. This along with a you tube channel and another reference book such as teach yourself, helps in learning. However ensure you red aloud what learned and practice dialoguing with another person, this you may need to pay a private tutor.

In mastering French, nothing is more important than learning to pronounce the words and phrases so that you can be understood. This audio-and-book program emphasizes speaking, sound discrimination, and standard intonation patterns that are typical of native French speakers, for example pronunciation of French vowel sounds, such as u and eu, and French nasals such as un and en, which many English people find especially difficult to pronounce. This program’s noteworthy features include:

  • A guide to French pronunciation expressed in the phonetic symbols of the International Phonetic Association (IPA)
  • Extensive pronunciation exercises including supplementary help based on poetry, proverbs, familiar sayings, historical quotations and humor
  • Audio on three convenient compact discs that complements the text

Words and sounds are put into a variety of conversational contexts for pupils of French to practice and perfect.

An excellent aid to learning French. If one believes that correct pronounciation is a substantial part of the learning process, you would be right. Excellent royal layout – I simply love big readable books – and very clear and distinctive audio to imitate proper pronounciation. 50% of foreign textbooks including audio are either inaudible or have poor recordings with early cut-offs or whole parts missing. This one isn’t and delivers all that it set out to do. An excellent choice if you want to spend the time to learn the pronounciation, including extra lexico, phrase and sentences. I buy quite a few books on Amazon, but rarely write a review. This book deserved my sincere recommendation.

So far this is the best pronunciation book and audio I have bought. Easy to follow with enough time to repeat the words and to understand what is being said. I am a newbie to French so was very pleased to listen to the clear speaking on the audio and follow it in the book. I recommend this book 100%.

This is a very useful book on a difficult subject. I haven’t seen anything else like it available.
It will help you improve your pronunciation and your listening skills also.
There is a lot of material in this book and it is well worth the money. I still find myself referring to it a lot , even after going through the book several times. Thus it is a good reference book as well as a good course in pronunciation.

I have not thoughly gone through this book as yet, but from what I’ve been able to read it’s helped my french move forward as pronouncing was a stumbling block for me. Excellent book.

The book and the audio arived in perfect condition. Thank you for the sale.

I have studied this book from cover to cover a number of times. It is very easy to understand and brilliantly presented in an easy to understand format.

Excellent Book. It’s a well laid out book that is easy to follow. It explains the sounds in French using both English equivalents and IPA (International Phenetic Alphabet). The books also provides a heads up for exceptions to the rules. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to demystify French phenetics.
