Hi, Welcome all on Fast French Learning, the blog to Learn and Improve your French 🇫🇷 😀
Reading will help you to improve your speaking skills, to be among the good speakers. It is one of the greatest way to increase your stock of words (and a variety of expressions). It can help you to get better the grammar and the structure of the different type of sentences. To have a better comprehension of the French language. Depending on the topics you are interested to read you will get a lot of informations, explanations on politics, French culture, it is good to remove the difficulty you will have sometimes, in France, when you will be talking to someone. It gives you more confidence.
Here are 3 tips to be more comfortable in reading in French.
Beginners : learn french in your car for lessons, vocabulary
Pay attention to the type of text you read
Take time to make a choice carefully.
Choose topics that are very interesting for you : French culture, cooking, animals, travelling, sport, philosophy, psychology, sciences, history,… While doing this you will have emotions you will not have if you make a wrong choice. The emotions you have are very important, it wil determine the ability of getting, remembering some informations, in others words, if you like what you are laerning, you will improve your French better and faster.
Choose a text with an appropriate level. Not to hard, not to easy. If you choose an easy level text, you will feel comfortable, you will read it quickly, but you wil not improve the language, you will maybe not learn new expressions, new strategies of learning. If you take a hard level text, you maybe will be frustrated because it will be hard to go through the text, you will not understand a lot of things, all the explanations, it will be a difficulty to get comfortable in reading, to have a good comprehension of the story, but you will learn new sentence structure, new words, new pronouns, new strategies of learning, you will enrich the French language. So, it is helpful sometimes to read a hard level text, to make an evaluation on where you are in your progression, and to progress a bit. But then go back to a suitable level text, otherwise it will be hard to keep the motivation up.

Reading out loud
This a very, I say it again, very efficient way to improve your French. You can improve your stock of words, the accent, getting better at speaking with fluency. When you read out loud you need to pay attention to some words, when you do not read out loud (in silence) maybe you would not pay attention to these words. So, you will get more words (example : pronouns,…), to enrich your stock of words. While doing this, you will get more confidence, you will able to speak to French native speakers in a variety of situations.

A story to improve your understanding skills
Here is a story in French with the English transcript, for student who want to improve their reading comprehension.
C’était un beau jour d’été, le soleil transperçait les rideaux de la chambre et, on pouvait sentir la douce chaleur du petit matin.
It was a beautiful summer day, the sun pierced the bedroom curtains and you could feel the warmth of the early morning.
Il était difficile de continuer à ignorer le chant des oiseaux et des criquets, l’aboiement du chien et le brouhaha des habitants.
It was difficult to continue to ignore the song of birds and locusts, the barking of the dog and the noise of the locals.
Martin soupira avec regret, et éjecta sa couverture d’un coup de pied.
Martin sighed regretfully, and kicked his blanket off.
Il bailla et se frotta les yeux avant de quitter son lit.
He yawned and rubbed his eyes before leaving his bed.
Il jeta un coup d’oeil à son réveil et grogna de mécontenttement quand il remarqua qu’il s’était réveillé beaucoup plus tôt qu’il n’avait prévu.
He glanced at his alarm clock and groaned in dissatisfaction when he noticed that he had woken up much earlier than he had expected.
Il alla faire sa toilette et, avant de se brosser les dents, laissa échapper un sourire moqueur en voyant son reflet dans le miroir.
He went to his toilet and, before brushing his teeth, let out a mocking smile when he saw his reflection in the mirror.
Ses cheveux étaient tout ébouriffés il avait même un peu de bave qui dégoulinait du bout de sa bouche.
His hair was tousled, he even had a bit of drool dripping from the tip of his mouth.
Une fois propre il se dirigea vers la cuisine pour prendre son petit-déjeuner. Il y avait une délicieuse odeur dans toute la maison et même s’il ne savait pas de quoi il s’agissait, il en voulait une grosse part.
Once clean he went to the kitchen for breakfast. There was a delicious smell all over the house and even if he didn’t know what it was all about, he wanted a lot of it.
En entrant, il entendit sa mère et son grand frère chuchoter puis il les vit.
As he entered, he heard his mother and older brother whispering and then saw them.
Maman se tenait debout en face de la cuisinière et Lucas était assis sur le comptoir à côté d’elle.
Mom was standing in front of the stove and Lucas was sitting on the counter next to her.
« J’ai économisé assez d’argent pendant les trois dernières années. N’oublie pas que je travaillais aussi pendant l’été », disait Lucas.
« I have saved enough money in the past three years. Remember, I also worked during the summer », said Lucas.
Il avait la tête incliné vers maman et lui jetait un regard suppliant.
His head was tilted towards mom and he was giving her a pleading look.
