A few tips to be able to read French in 1 month

Hi, Welcome all on Fast French Learning, the blog to Learn and Improve your French 🇫🇷 😀

Reading is part of the 4 points of learning French, the three others are listening, speaking and writing. Reading will help to be better in the practice of these three points, to get more confidence, to know better the conjugation, having richer conversations, getting more fluency, feeling more comfortable if you go in a French speaking country for an immersion, to understand better a variety of movies,… You do not need to go to the university to learn and improve the reading.

It is very important to have pleasure to read what you read. What do you read in your native language ? The answer is what you are going to read in French ! It could be books, novels, magazines about nature, cooking, history,…

Read a text that is a little bit above your level

You need to find the balance. If you take something to easy you will not improve your level, if you take something too hard for you maybe you will give up quickly. When you read a text that you understand a bit, you can easily get more words, and learn grammar in a natural way with the comprehension you have of the structure of the sentences, and the conjugation of the verbs. As you will see that your are improving, you will feel pleasure and you will have more motivation to continue.

What if it is still too hard ?

You did everything right but you do not seem to be able to understand what is going on in your story. Do not panic, relax !
1-Try it several times before you give up on something.
2-Have a good dictionary, you can try a dictionary online, they are free. Remember that it is ok to read several time the same chapter or the same paragraph. What you can do if any French book is really hard is to try to translate a part of a book you already know, for example Harry Potter.
3 -If it is really again hard for you, what you can do also is to listen to an audiobook and read it at the same time.

Beginner, learners : best books to learn French fluently for vocabulary

Read as many books as possible

At a level that is easy for you. And follow these two rules :
-Skip words you do not know
-Jump to a new book if the current one is boring
Goals are to help you master reading, words, and grammar, simply by reading a lot without getting stuck on minor words.

Read slowly

Take your time. Read the lines slowly on the first try, just like a child when they learning to read.

Then speed up your reading

Onve you have read a line slowly and you are familiar with the words, start speeding up. Re-read that same line a little bit faster on the second try. Then a little faster on the third try. Doing this will help you to read faster.

Pick something you want to read

First, make sure you read what you really want to read. You do not want to end up with a book that you will not finish, that will just demotivate you, and you wantto keept the motivation.

Keep it short

The second tips is to have short sessions of reading. Do it regularly but do short session. There is no point to do it once a week for three hours. That is not going to help you.

Be regular

Come back to it regularly and do not be afraid to put down the book if it is too complicated, take a break, come back to it later.

Keep  a notebook close

Have a notebook with you, it is going to help you with the recurrent words but also with the stories. If you have short sessions, sometimes it is hard to follow the story, so take notes of the story : the name of the characters,… This is an extra point if you can do it in French !
